Air Dried refers to the way the wood has been made ahead of being turned into a stave and ultimately a cask. For this release within the Contrasts series we use American Virgin oak, meaning it has not previously held any other liquid and is the first time this wood is being used to mature the Benromach spirit.

The wood has dried outside for 2 years in the American sunshine in the US state of Missouri. When interacting with our Benromach spirit, this results in sweet vanilla fudge, toasted cereal and citrus blossom characteristics.

Colour

Golden Amber.

Aroma

Sweet vanilla fudge aromas with mixed citrus, oak and underlying smoke.

Palate

Cracked black pepper notes are followed by citrus, toasted cereal, fresh garden mint and oak flavours.

Finish

Lingering hints of smoke.

Benromach Contrasts: Air Dried Oak

Similarly to our Core Range, the malted barley is peated with a phenol level content of around 12PPM, leading to a subtle smoke flavour which lingers on the finish.

Distilled in 2012 and bottled in 2023, this single malt has aged for 10 years and is golden amber in colour.
