To continue our celebration of makers and their products, we have partnered with Volta, creators of hand-made leather jackets.
Volta (originally established as Manufatto Pele) is a Taiwanese family-owned producer of hand-made, custom-made high quality leather jackets, founded in 1979 in Taipei City, Taiwan, by Michael Kang. Several decades on his craftmanship, passion and skill has been handed down to son Howell, who is as uncompromising as his father on the philosophy behind Volta.
Howell steadfastly continues to resist any temptation to scale up the operation and become mass-market. Introducing automation is simply not an option for the Kang family, who passionately believe that the enjoyment their customers feel – when putting on a jacket that has been uniquely customised for them – can only be created with the human touch.
In the Volta workshop everything is measured, cut, stitched and finished by hand.
“Taking time and care to create something from scratch right through to the finished detail, whilst using natural materials, is what we are all about. Getting personal when making each jacket is the only way we can truly personalise the item for our customers.”
Benromach and the Kangs' shared belief in the values of the handmade lends itself to a natural fit collaboration. This initiative is providing consumers in Taiwan with an opportunity to secure a limited edition Benromach leather jacket, customised and hand-made by Volta.
