Contrasts: Virgin Oak
In contrast to our typical maturation method at Benromach where we use first-fill Sherry and Bourbon casks, we have released a new expression within the Contrasts series, Virgin Oak.
This release has matured in the best quality American Virgin Oak casks which have not previously held any other spirit.
The oak selected is carefully air dried before being handcrafted into 250 litre hogsheads by coopers in Speyside. Once the casks are made, the oak is gently charred before being filled by our expert team with our signature subtly smoky spirit.

Flavour Profile

Benromach Contrasts: Virgin Oak
We use lighly peated malted barley for this expression which contains a phenol level of around 10-12PPM.
Distilled in 2013 and bottled in 2024, this single malt has matured for 10 years and the smooth smoke characteristic is complemented by notes of fragrant dried banana, butterscotch, citrus and lingering notes of mature oak.
Fancy contrasting with a very different cask type? Why not try Double Matured from our Contrasts range.
