Gordon & MacPhail to present Jubilee Single Malt to Lord Lieutenant of Moray

Large_QE2_Museum The Glen Grant 60 Year Old, which was bottled to commemorate Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee, will be displayed in Elgin museum throughout the summer. The decanter is number 1 out of just 85 that were released by Gordon & MacPhail on 6^th February this year. A digital display will tell visitors more about the whisky, its heritage and qualities, and will be a central part of the museum’s Diamond Jubilee exhibition.

Following its display at the museum, the decanter will be presented by the Lord-Lieutenant of Moray to Her Majesty as a gift from the people of Moray, courtesy of Gordon & MacPhail.

Lieutenant Colonel Johnston commented: “The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee will be celebrated around the world and Moray is no exception. Gordon & MacPhail’s decision to bottle this whisky in its 60^th year is a fitting tribute to Her Majesty and her decades of service to the British people.”

Michael Urquhart, joint managing director of Gordon & MacPhail, said: “We decided that the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee was a fitting occasion to release such an exquisite and rare whisky, especially on its 60^th birthday. It is an honour for our single malt to be given to Her Majesty the Queen and I hope the people of Moray come and view the decanter’s craftsmanship while it is on display in Elgin Museum.”

On 2 February 1952, four days before the accession of Her Majesty to the throne, two first fill sherry hogsheads – cask numbers 465 and 466 – to be filled at Glen Grant before being left to mature at the distillery.

On 2 February 2012, exactly 60 years after the whisky was distilled, the instruction was given by the Directors of Gordon & MacPhail to empty cask number 465 and bottle the precious contents at cask strength in honour of Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee.
