Award Winning Benromach Whiskies

It has been an award winning year for Benromach as our whiskies were acknowledged throughout the world by independent judges and critics. Early on in the year Benromach 10 Years Old was awarded gold at the 2011 Great Taste Awards and in November it gained gold at from TheFiftyBest.com awards in New York City. In October Benromach 30 Years Old was acknowledged as the Best Single Malt Scotch Whisky in the 28-34 years (multiple casks) category of Jim Murray’s 2012 Whisky Bible. It was described as “magnificent, one of the outstanding malts of the year”, scoring 95.5 points out of 100. Benromach Cask Strength 2001 and Benromach Organic were the stars in October at the Stockholm Beer and Whisky Festival, as both were given gold, while the “Liquid Gold” Benromach Vintage scored 94.5 points out of 100 in Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible 2012.

Benromach – a Speyside Distillery distilled

In 1993 Gordon & MacPhail purchased the distillery and over a five year period the company painstakingly re-equipped the distillery before it was officially opened by HRH Prince Charles in October 1998.

During this 5 year period, Gordon & MacPhail evaluated their stocks of Single Malt whiskies from before the 1960s, reviewing the characteristics of Speyside Single Malts such as Mortlach, Longmorn, Linkwood and Glen Grant.

The result of this research enabled Gordon & MacPhail to consider the production process to produce the “Benromach Style” – a style which would have been seen in Speyside pre -1960s.

Join Distillery Manager Keith Cruickshank and Director -Whisky Supply, Ewen Mackintosh, to explore and sample a selection of old Speyside whiskies and understand how these characteristics can be found in the range of Benromach whiskies.
