The race, which set sail from Liverpool on Sunday 16th September 2007 will last ten months and take in 35,000 miles of ocean racing. La Rochelle was the first port of call for the fleet of yachts, and representatives from Benromach Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky were in attendance at the key side to welcome the yachts into port after racing 610 nautical miles.
The Glasgow: Scotland with style Clipper clinched third place at the end of Race 1 in the Clipper 07-08 Round the World Yacht Race. With Hull & Humber commanding victory and Liverpool finishing in second place, the UK entries in the Clipper 07-08 have swept the board for the three podium positions in the first three-day sprint of the ten-month series.
Hannah Jenner and her crew on the Glasgow: Scotland with style Clipper had cut Liverpool 08’s lead down to less than three miles at the finish but ran out of time to catch the Liverpudlians to threaten their second place.
After finishing, Hannah says, “We would have had them if we’d have had another few hours! Next time…..”
