Participants and visitors to the Glasgow River Festival were invited to test their skill and strength this weekend (14 July 2007) and take part in the Benromach Cask Strength Challenge. The annual Glasgow River Festival returned to the Clyde for two days of high quality, nautical family entertainment. Packed with a mixture of on-water and riverside activities, the festival was a colourful celebration of the past, present and future of the historical waterfront.
The Benromach Cask Strength Challenge invited participants to winch a Benromach cask to the top of a ramp in the quickest time possible. Over 100 people took part in The Challenge and raised more than £120 for Cash for Kids.
On Saturday it was a hard fought battle in the gents section but William Ward from Gosport won with19.47 seconds. The ladies winner was Lorna Kyle at 47.05 seconds. On Sunday the gent’s winner was John Corbett with19.81 seconds. The ladies winner was Sharon Brown with a very respectable time of 28.57 seconds
The Glasgow River Festival is just one of several events throughout Scotland to experience the Benromach Cask Strength Challenge.
Visitors to Inverkip for the Savills Kip Regatta in May, were invited to test their skill and strength. Niall Reid from Shrewsbury recorded 14.44 seconds in the men’s competition and Jana Thomson from Helensburgh recorded 22.56 seconds in the ladies competition.
Visitors to the Royal Highland Show near Edinburgh in June displayed their best ‘pulling technique’ and took on The Benromach Cask Strength Challenge. Over 400 people took part and all proceeds were donated to the St Andrew’s Hospice in Airdrie.
The Benromach Cask Strength Challenge has been organised to raise awareness of Benromach’s partnership with the Glasgow: Scotland with style Clipper in the Clipper 07-08 Round the World Yacht Race. |
