Richard and Stuart Urquhart, twin sons of David Urquhart, Joint Managing Director at Gordon & MacPhail, proprietors of Benromach Distillery, are to set sail and take part in the 07-08 Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. The twins will both become crew members of the Glasgow: Scotland with style Clipper, of which Benromach Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a Race Partner
Richard will be the first to test his nautical skills as he boards the Glasgow: Scotland with style Clipper in Durban, South Africa for the next race to Fremantle, Australia which starts on Sunday 25 November. Stuart will join the race at the end of February 2008 for the leg that starts in Qingdao, China and finishes in Santa Cruz, USA in April.
In joining the crew of the Glasgow: Scotland with style Clipper, Richard will be aiming to work hard with the rest of the crew to maintain the Scottish yachts winning start. After 3 races the Glasgow: Scotland with style Clipper lies top of the leader board, having secured impressive finishes in the races from Liverpool to La Rochelle, La Rochelle to Salvador da Bahia and Salvador da Bahia to Durban.
Both Richard and Stuart (26) are keen sailors, having enjoyed the challenges of the sea from the age of five. They have competed at International level, won numerous Scottish Sailing Championships and have recently competed together in a 49er campaign throughout the UK. Richard is a Network Support Technician for Musselburgh based interior fit out specialists, Sharkey Fit Out. Stuart works in Edinburgh as a Developer in Corporate IT at HBOS.
