On the outskirts of the Royal Burgh and ancient
market town of Forres lies Benromach Distillery, the smallest
working distillery in Speyside. Here whisky was first made in
the final year of the 19th Century.
Benromach continues to produce its golden spirit for connoisseurs
the "world o'er" to savour and enjoy.
Founded in 1898, this imposing distillery lay silent and empty
for a number of years and suffered many closures and changes
in ownership prior to 1993, when malt whisky specialists, Gordon & MacPhail,
rescued it. They set about an extensive re-installation programme
to bring Benromach back to its former glory. HRH Prince of
Wales officially re-opened the distillery in its Centenary
year.
Now you can see the mash tun, the burnished copper stills
and the brass spirit safe where the distiller's craft creates
the unique qualities of the single malt.
Now in production, Benromach displays all the traditional
warm characteristics once so evident in this Speyside distillery.
During your visit discover the time-honoured skills, which
bring together locally grown barley, yeast and the cool, clear
water from the nearby Romach Hills, to produce a whisky full
of character and distinction and one that remains true to its
heritage.
'Nose' and enjoy a dram of the award-winning Benromach Single
Malt in the old Drier House, now our Malt Whisky Centre.
Here you can learn about the different types of whiskies produced
in the Highlands, Lowlands, Islay and the Islands of Scotland.
And of course here in Speyside, where the majority of single
malt whisky distilleries are to be found.
A wide range of single malts as well as exclusive Benromach
gifts are available at the Malt Whisky Centre shop to bring
back memories of your visit to Speyside, Forres and Benromach
Distillery.
