Benromach Organic Wins Supreme Title

Benromach Organic, the first bottled single malt to be certified by the Soil Association, has won the supreme title in the 2007 Scottish Food and Drink Excellence Awards. Held at Glasgow's Kelvingrove Museum & Art Gallery on Thursday (10 th May), Benromach Organic was also awarded top honours in the Retail – Drink – Alcoholic and Non-Alcoholic category.

Benromach Organic is hand made by just two men at Benromach, the smallest working distillery in Speyside. The whole process – raw ingredients, distillation, maturation and bottling – is certified organic to the rigorous standards set by the Soil Association.

Using pure spring water from the nearby Romach Hills and the finest Scottish organic barley and organic yeast, Benromach Organic is made by experienced distillers, personally ensuring only the highest quality spirit is filled into hand selected virgin American oak casks.

The virgin American oak casks are made of wood from environmentally managed forests. Only when the spirit has matured to the highest quality standard is it bottled as Benromach Organic Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

Benromach Organic is bottled non chill filtered, at natural colour and at 43% ABV. Golden brown in colour, Benromach Organic is a fresh vibrant whisky with a strong oak influence. The nose reveals sweet, charred oak aromas with fresh fruit notes (bananas and pineapples). An earthy, toasted aroma also present. The palate exposes sweet, vanilla and toffee flavours. Hints of green apples and orange peel with a rich resinous note.

After picking up the award at Thursday’s award ceremony, David Urquhart, director at Gordon & MacPhail, proprietors of Benromach distillery says, “I am delighted to pick up this award on behalf of all the team at Benromach and Gordon & MacPhail. Benromach Organic is presented in bespoke 70cl bottle and striking black tin, which contrasts in colour to the other expressions in the range to help reinforce the uniqueness of the product.
