Ian Urquhart, managing director of Gordon & MacPhail, proprietors of Benromach distillery says, “Benromach Classic 55 Years represents a small piece of the history of Benromach distillery and its launch is a significant milestone in the re-establishment of the Benromach brand. This whisky exemplifies the qualities from a time when traditional methods were used to produce malt whisky.”
Bright orange gold in colour this exceptional Speyside Single Malt Whisky is mellow and rich. It has delicate, perfumed notes, with spices and a subtle smoky edge with traces of menthol and hessian. On the palette it is coating, with an oily texture, where oak and peat smoke flavours combine. The finish is slightly sweet with a hint of smoke and malt.
This precious cargo is presented in a burnished copper tube, hand-made, stylish and representative of the stills used to produce the spirit over half a century ago. The bottle has been carefully hand-blown to ensure an outstanding and flawless finish. Both the bottle and tube are individually numbered and are accompanied by a certificate which plays tribute to story of the production in 1949. On the reverse side of the certificate there is a brief excerpt from the distiller’s report of that day.
Benromach Distillery was purchased by Gordon & MacPhail in 1993 and following a period of extensive re-furbishment, the distillery was officially opened by HRH The Prince of Wales on the 15th of October 1998. Purchasing Benromach distillery enabled the Elgin firm to become distillers in their own right. May 2004 saw the successful launch of Benromach Traditional, the first distilled single malt whisky to be released by Gordon & MacPhail since reopening Benromach Distillery.
