BENROMACH DISTILLERY FREE FAMILY FUNDAY 2004
As part of the annual Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival 2004, Gordon & MacPhail, the World’s Leading Malt Whisky Specialist, is once again opening the doors to Benromach Distillery, for a Free Family Funday on Sunday 2nd May 2004. Just off the A96 at Forres the distillery is easily recognisable from the road by its near 100-foot red brick chimney and pristine white buildings.
Over the last three years we have welcomed over 5,000 people to our family open days and we look forward to again welcoming families and friends to our Free Family Funday in 2004.
This year, Gordon & MacPhail is delighted to be launching a new single malt whisky – Benromach Traditional, at the Funday. Casks and bottles of the new whisky will be arriving at the Distillery at 2pm on a vintage Albion lorry for a launch ceremony.
Benromach Traditional is the first whisky to be released by Gordon and MacPhail since recommencing distilling at Benromach in 1998 and its launch is a momentous event in the history of both the Distillery and Gordon and MacPhail. Hand made and matured at Speyside’s smallest distillery, Benromach Traditional is rich and mellow single malt whisky with fruity and malty tones, balanced with a hint of smoke.
In addition to the launch ceremony, your family will be entertained with live events on stage and in the surrounding distillery grounds. This year we will be featuring the talents of the June Roy Highland Dancers and a display of the ancient martial art of Tae Kwon Do. Live music will be offered by Jim and Nina McKellar, the Forres Pipe Band and the Drummond Cook Scottish Dance Band.
There will also be a cask-making demonstration by a cooper from the Isla Cooperage and a coppersmith from Highland Spirit will be showing visitors the intricate skills required to make whisky stills. There will also be an opportunity to put your olfactory skills to the test in the Malt Whisky Centre with our free whisky nosing competition. Free tours of the distillery will be available during the event as well.
For the children’s entertainment there will be Bubbles the Clown, free face painting, free balloons and a wonderful selection of free games like ‘Bung the Bung’, ‘Whisky Buzz’ and ‘Hoop the Hoggie’.
The Free Family Funday is open to the public from 12 noon until 4pm and we look forward to welcoming everyone to the distillery. Come along and join in the fun!
