BENROMACH Scotch Whisky Distillery Achieves 4 Star Grading
Benromach Distillery & Malt Whisky
Centre, located just off the A96 Aberdeen to Inverness
road on the Forres bypass, opened its doors to the public
last August. During the last year the Distillery has received
a great deal of local and visitor support.
The
Malt Whisky Centre has recently been graded by the Scottish
Tourist Board and has achieved a 4 star grading as a ‘visitor
attraction’. This achievement has enabled the distillery,
owned and managed by local Elgin whisky specialist Gordon & MacPhail,
to successfully apply to the Malt Whisky Trail to become
members. The last successful applicant to join the Malt
Whisky Trail was Dallas Dhu Historic Distillery back in
1994.
As new members representing tourism in
the area we have been overwhelmed by the response of visitors
to the Malt Whisky Centre even though we opened during
a year of decline in Scottish tourism. Our aim is to provide
a quality attraction that is both enjoyable and informative
to all visitors. We hope our location will encourage visitors
into the area to tour the distillery when they may not
have planned to as well as welcome whisky lovers into the
area. It is a great opportunity to work alongside the other
Malt Whisky Trail members and mutually learn from each
other’s experiences.’ Leslie Duroe
"The award of a four star grading
shows the hard work put in by all the staff of Benromach
Distillery to deliver a high quality experience for their
visitors and we congratulate them on this achievement," comments
Beverley Tricker Marketing and PR Manager at Aberdeen and
Grampian Tourist Board. "The Malt Whisky Trail is
one of the key attractions in our area, drawing visitors
from across the globe. Benromach Distillery joining the
Trail will only strengthen this important element of the
Moray tourism product."
