Benromach Family Funday2003 A Great Success

Visitors to the annual Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival
flocked to Benromach Distillery to enjoy a Free Family
Funday on Sunday 4th May 2003.
The
crowds were awed by a spectacular 300 foot aerial display
by the Nimrod Display team from 42(R) Squadron at Kinloss
who officially opened the Funday with a display at the
distillery. The crew of seven were enthusiastically welcomed
to Benromach when they arrived after the display to meet
the families and sign autographs.
The opening was marked by the donation
of a specially signed bottle of Benromach 18 year old Single
Malt Whisky, presented by Ian Urquhart, Managing Director
of Gordon & MacPhail, to the Captain of the Nimrod
Display team, Flight Lieutenant Phil Tett who commented,
"On behalf of the Display Team we
are delighted to have opened this Funday at our local
distillery, Benromach. This signed bottle will be auctioned
later in the year to help raise funds for our chosen
children's charities both here in Moray and in Toronto,
Canada. We would like to thank Gordon & MacPhail
for inviting us."
Visitors vied with each other to test
their olfactory senses with a Nosing Competition; the competition
was extremely popular and attracted several hundred entries.
Families
were entertained with live traditional and modern events
on stage and in the surrounding distillery grounds. This
year the June Roy Highland Dancers and the Forres Pipe
Band both entertained onlookers. Live music was provided
by the Ian Anderson Scottish Dance Band with songs by Jim
and Nina McKellar.
There was a cask-making demonstration
by a cooper from the Speyside Cooperage who showed off
his considerable skill, proving it's definitely not as
easy as it looks!
For
the children's entertainment there was Bubbles the Clown,
face painting, Benromach balloons and a wonderful selection
of games like 'Bung the Bung', 'Whisky Buzz' and 'Cask
Hoop Rolling'.
Ian Urquhart, Managing Director, comments,
"Gordon & MacPhail is delighted
to have been able to welcome so many people to Benromach
Distillery. It has been wonderful to see families enjoying
themselves today. Our annual Family Funday is a regular
part of the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival and we
look forward to hosting another event at the same time
next year."
